Police still seeking information on $20,000 in sixth-grader’s backpack

TAYLOR — Police still are tracking who owns $20,000 in cash an 11-year-old brought to school in a backpack.

The student at the Sixth Grade Academy said the mystery money she brought to school Monday belongs to a friend’s parents, who live near her family.

Police Chief Mary Sclabassi said Thursday that the department is waiting to see documentation to prove it is their money and how it was acquired.

Woodhaven: City welcomes new reverse 911 system

WOODHAVEN —The city soon will have a new way to reach out to residents during an emergency.

In a cost-sharing agreement with Marathon Pipeline, the City Council approved $2,500 last week toward a $5,000 reverse 911 system that will allow public safety officials to call all of the city’s landline customers.

Officials to seek concessions from all unions, including $1 million from Fire Department

LINCOLN PARK — Officials once again said union concessions are necessary to avoid a deficit and will be sought to return the city to solvency.

In their latest attempt to eliminate the city’s projected deficit of about $550,000 at the end of the fiscal year June 30, officials adopted several more cost-cutting moves and a handful of others failed Monday night.
